National Aboriginal History Month: Nisga’a Employment, Skills & Training

June, 2017

Nisga’a Employment, Skills & Training (NEST) is the employment and training program and service arm of the Nisga’a Lisims Government. The Nisga’a Lisims Government assumed control over their own governance in 2000 after the signing of the landmark Nisga’a Final Agreement, BC’s first modern treaty. The Treaty recognizes Nisga’a Lands and has created opportunities for sustainable development of the Nisga’a Nation’s natural resources. Nisga’a territory resides in the Nass Valley region of northwest BC.

In the last two years, Castlemain’s communications team (previously known as Coppermoon) has assisted NEST in strategizing and implementing their communications and community engagement initiatives in order to effectively engage and inform Nisga’a citizens. Most recently, the communications team planned and managed a very successful event with NEST and Pretivm Resources Inc. (a partner mining proponent of the Nisga’a Lisims Government). The event fostered dialogue, job readiness criteria and information about employment opportunities at the mine. It was a very successful and well-attended event with 100+ in-person attendees and 135 attending through live stream.
