This October 22 – 25th will be Cando’s 24th Annual National Conference & AGM with the theme A New Dawn in Indigenous Economies. Cando is an excellent resource to learn more about Indigenous Economic Development and we look forward to seeing this year’s event combined with Aboriginal Business Match for their always successful networking event.

This year’s World Indigenous Business Forum will be held in Santiago, Chile. This event gets bigger every year, this year will feature discussions on Global Strategies, Green Economics, and Rebuilding Nations with Good Governance. In addition to being able to network and learn from Indigenous businesses around the world, but sure to catch Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada’s President & CEO Keith Henry’s presentation as well as T’Sou-ke First Nation Chief Gordon Planes’ panel The Business of Green Economics.

The Castlemain team rounds up the new, Indigenous, cultural things they’re into this week — from new books to movies, to speaker series, to music and podcasts!


The Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto has 2 exciting events happening this week. First, on Sunday, October 22, as part of their exhibit Anishinaabeg: Art & Power, they will be hosting a 1-day hands-on workshop an Introduction to Native Beading with Naomi Smith.

Next, on Tuesday, October 24, as part of ROM Speaks, will be Art & Identity with Kent Monkman. We are excited to hear Monkman speak about his work and how it has recast the Canadian historical narrative.

Where: ROM Signy and Cleophee Eaton Theatre

On Saturday, October 21st, the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art will be featuring a discussion with Sesemiya (Tracy Williams) on how she is relearning ancient technology through a combination of Elder’s teachings, an understanding of local lands and resources, and a willingness to experiment.

Congratulations to all the recipients of the 2017 BC Aboriginal Business Awards. We are excited to attend the event and recognize the outstanding achievements of the various Indigenous businesses in Canada. Be sure to look for members of our staff at the event!

After the awards, Castlemain will be hosting our annual ABA after party #CMGafterdark. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the collaboration with our clients over the last 6 years as well as a unique chance to meet the CMG team.
